New Grokiam Website

I created www.grokiam.com mostly because I wanted to get my own IMAP email with my own URL. While doing that, I signed up for a website tonight account that lets me build a reasonable website from templates. It is mostly for my learning, but is reflective of me.

Misadventures in VC fund raising

This blog post describes a rollercoaster ride of a Seattle company on the edge of raising funds and then it not closing. This happened to VRstorm this year. We got a letter of offer, had due dilligence done, had a draft contract for $2M debt in early Jan 2011 but could not get it closed and gave up in March 2011. If anyone knew it would be such a crazy scary stressful fun ride, they probably wouldn't get into it.

Types of Clouds


This is my favorite diagram that explains the macro benefits of different types of cloud Infrastructure as a Service. Large Enterprises may choose the left bottom expensive proprietary systems, tech-savvy small companies may choose the right top cheap commodity systems, but there are many enterprises that need the services that are provided in the middle.
