Twitter, Blog, LinkedIn, Facebook

Grade 6 class of 1972 Roxboro Elementary Montreal

Which one?  This blog is more a personal diary.  I don't get to it very often and I use it to write more general observations.

I Twitter, but don't expect people to follow me really.  Although I am getting a few more followers and reposts and sometimes what I tweet gets consolidated into some cloud newsletters, which is interesting because I don't know why or how it happens.  I do have a good unique handle - Grokiam - I guess and I do have some unique things to say.

Facebook is for friends from high school and trusted similar-mined work and life colleagues.  I have way more HS friends connected on FB than any others.  I think that HS is a time of maximal identity-forming, and I had a great group of people I spent time with from grade 1 - 6 and then even more from grade 7 - 11- we are still a virtual community now - even after 30 years or so.  See photo - we know each other very well as we all grew up to become adults together.

LinkedIn is for more professional connections and I am a member and contributor to quite a few groups on cloud, innovation, angel and VC investment, complexity science, innovation.  There are some good discussions but some, but not all is self-promotion.

There are lots of other channels too.  I am reading a book, Six Pixels of Separation, which is a pretty good book about connecting via various forms of social media.  I just do it now as part of connecting and networking - it's part of being a connected social being.

Also, my mom and brother and sisters and son (but not husband yet!) are on Facebook, and it's a rich way to share what's up.  We skype, text and post things that we want to share.
