Congratulations Alison!

Alberta has elected the conservative party for the past 40 years.  So, when they have a change in leadership, this person typically becomes the premier of the province.  The conservatives just finished a leadership vote and choose Alison Redford.  This was a surprise as there was a different front-runner, Gary Mar, in the first and second votes. Doug Horner, former Minister of Advanced Education and Technology finished third.

Alison is very articulate and more progressive than many of the others.  She believes in strong public education and heath systems. Bio at: http://www.alisonredford.ca/alison/biography.cfm

I am not particularly partisan. I vote for the leader I believe in.  It's very strange than in Alberta, you have to join the conservative party to vote for the premier!  There may be a shift happening in Alberta and it isn't to the right.
